The History of Lewis Motors - South Burlington, Vermont

Lewis Motors is a second generation, family owned and operated dealership. We are an authorized sales and service franchise for Audi, Volkswagen and Acura.

The dealership began at its present location in 1974 as Chittenden County Volkswagen. Alexander Lewis was Founder and General Manager. In 1976 the Audi franchise was added. The dealership also sold Porsche from 1976-1989 and Suzuki from 1990-1995.

In 1986, Alexander's son David graduated from Norwich University with a B.S. in Business Administration and came to work full time at the dealership. In 1994 he took over as General Manager, and the next year he added the Acura franchise.

Alexander Lewis sold the business to David in 1996 and is now enjoying retirement with his wife Connie. David runs the business on a day to day basis, and lives in nearby Charlotte with his wife Karyn, daughter Sarah (7) and son Alex (3).

The dealership consists of three separate buildings and a large paved lot.
The Volkswagen-Audi building is on the south end of the lot, and houses both the showrooms and service/parts facilities. The company's business office is also located there. On the north end of the lot is the Acura service/parts department building which also houses the company's vehicle reconditioning department, and the Acura showroom which also houses the company's Business Development Center and Internet Sales Department.

Lewis Motors proudly supports many local charities and non-profit organizations. David Lewis also serves on the Governor's Commission on Climate Change and the Environment, as well as being a Director of the Vermont Auto Dealers' Association.
